April Unit Meetings: Barriers to Voting
In this critical election year, it is important for us to recognize what barriers must be overcome to assure a free, fair, and participtory election. Emma White, Elections Outreach & Education Specialist for the Pierce County Auditor's Office, is the guest speaker for the April Unit Meetings.
Emma will explain the difference between barriers to voting vs barriers to having a vote counted (i.e., rejected ballots). Emma will also talk about the primary barriers to voting (i.e., homelessness, low income, cultural, etc.) and how Pierce County Elections is planning to address those issues.
Pierce County Elections has a process to make sure every vote is counted. In spite of that many ballots are not counted. Emma will explain why. Lastly, we will discuss what LWVTPC can do to assist Pierce County Elections in both efforts.
