About this event
Tacoma Public Library will host a special educational program series focused on houselessness in our community.
Please join us to learn about why people fall into houselessness, the reality and challenges of being houseless, and what resources are available to help people become housed. Community members are highly encouraged to attend and continue the conversation on how to build a more inclusive and compassionate environment for our unhoused neighbors.
At the last meeting of the series, please join Building Bridges for a follow-up session of the three-part series, Houselessness: A Neighborhood Conversation Series, to have a community conversation about living unhoused in Tacoma. This follow-up session will feature individuals with lived experience and knowledge about how our systems operate for those without housing. We will have our conversation in a circle so that everyone's voice is equal. We will be using the Guide to Respectful Conversations to facilitate our discussion. Our goals for this conversation include: 1) Improve peoples' understanding of how and why people experience houselessness; 2) Increase awareness about the challenges of experiencing houselessness; 3) Inform and encourage empathy and engagement from the public around houselessness.
This series will be held at our South Tacoma branch on Saturdays from 3:00-4:30pm on January 25th, February 1st, 8th, and 22nd.
