Unit Meetings are generally held in the months of September through May, with the exception of December. In December, all members meet in a Program Planning session; and in June, all members meet for the League's Annual Meeting. For the Unit Meetings with programs that had presentations, those presentations are posted here.

2025-2026 Program Year

 

May 2026– Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office

Pierce County Prosecutor Mary Robnett and Chief Criminal Deputy Coreen Schnepf shared with us the work of the Prosecutor's Office, current crime trends, steps businesses can take to protect themselves and how to be a good witness. 

 

 

April 2026 – From Position to Action: Climate

Marty Gibbins, LWVWA Climate and Energy Issue Chair and Board Second Vice President, provided an overview of current state efforts, including the Climate Commitment Act and funding challenges at both state and federal levels. Following the presentation, Chuck Jensen (LWVTPC) led a discussion on international progress in climate action and energy conservation.

March 2026 - From Position to Action: Healthcare

Katie Johnson, DPN, the LWVWA Healthcare Issue Chair, presented on League positions regarding healthcare at the national and Washington state levels, including funding constraints in the current legislative session.

February 2026 - From Position to Action: Housing and Homelessness

LWVTPC members and housing advocates Theresa Power-Drutis and Rosemary Powers provided an interactive update on housing and homelessness, joined by guest speakers with expertise in local issues. The session highlighted local outreach and advocacy efforts.

January 2026 - Washington State Legislative Session

Cynthia Stewart, LWVWA Lobby Team Lead, presented key issues expected in the second half of the 2025-26 biennium, which convenes January 12, 2026. She will highlight the League’s legislative priorities and discuss ways members can support the League's advocacy efforts.

December 2025 – All-Member Program Planning Meeting

Annual gathering for presenting proposals for a program of work to present at the annual membership meeting in June 2026. No additional materials are available.

 

November 2025 – Focus: Northwest Detention Center

Lydia Zepeda presented a compelling overview of the current conditions for people detained at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma. She provided insight into the challenges detainees face every day and the actions League members can take to advocate and support them.

 

October 2025 - Protocol & Politics of Voter Registration

Kyle Haugh, Pierce County Elections Manager debunked the myth that non-citizens are voting. Following a Q&A with Kyle, we had a brief discussion of statewide Initiative IL26-126, requiring registered voters to reregister in person with proof of citizenship.

 

September 2025 – Defending Democracy

An open conversation on how the League—nationally, at the state level, and here locally—is responding to the current constitutional crisis and other threats to democracy. Together, we explored concrete actions we can take as a League and as individuals to help safeguard a fully democratic society.

 


2024-2025 Program Year

 

May 2025 - Home Remedies for Disheartening Days: Staving Off Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss

Guest speakers were from Pierce Conservation District, Pierce County Office of Resilience and Climate Action (ORCA), Great Peninsula Conservancy, Tahoma Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, and more. They discussed local actions that restore abundance to damaged Pierce County ecosystems while sheltering us from extreme effects of climate change.

April 2025 - LWVUS Federal Judicial Study

The program for this month is a review of and consensus discussion about the LWVUS Federal Judicial Study.  This study could not be more relevant today to our mission of Defending Democracy.

 

March 2025 - Welcoming Immigrants to Washington State

This was an all-member consensus meeting with lively and thoughtful conversation about the Welcoming Immigrants to Washington State study. This study informs our League’s responses to important policy challenges now and for the future. 

 

February 2025 – Elder Caregiving

All-member consideration of a potential new LWVWA position on Elder Caregiving. 

 

January 2025 - Introduction to the 2025 Legislative Session

Cynthia Stewart, LWVTPC member and LWVWA Lobby Team Chair, provided information about key issues League will be engaged in and how members can support the League's work.

Cynthia Stewart, WA State LWV Lobby Team Chair, presented on the four state wide Initiatives on our ballots, Initiatives 2109, 2066, 2117 and 2124.
